BHF launches its annual appeal for charity shop stock
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has launched its annual month-long Bag-athon to encourage people to donate items for its charity shops.
The charity describes the Great British Bag-athon as "the UK’s biggest stock donation appeal". It is aiming to secure one million bags of unwanted items by the end of September.
This year's campaign includes a competitive element whereby BHF encourages office workers to compete to donate the largest number of bags in their organisation. Writing in the July/August issue of Heart Matters Online, Mike Taylor, BHF Director of Retail, said: "we also want people to join in and to try and collect as many bags as possible. People can do it at work and see who can generate the most bags. We did it and it got quite competitive, we wanted to collect more bags than any other department!"

The campaign was launched last month and included media partnerships with radio groups Global, Bauer and Real, covering 33 regional stations. As well as a 20 second advert, the stations' DJs have also been talking to local people who have survived heart attacks.
