JustGiving lists hundreds of London Marathon places for charity runners
Online giving site JustGiving is listing hundreds of London Marathon 2011 places available for people wishing to run for a charity.
More than 150,000 people applied to run the London Marathon 2011, but most were left disappointed as the balloted places were announced and just 20,000 were given the chance to run.
JustGiving is listing some of the places at the event already secured by some of its charity clients. These Golden Bonds offer guaranteed places in the Marathon, and charities make them available to runners, usually in return for them committing to raise a minimum amount for the charity.

Applicants can apply to over 200 different charities with Golden Bonds on JustGiving, ranging from health to environmental charities. By applying for places via the site, JustGiving makes it easy for potential runners to create a fundraising page, ready for use when they hear that they are successful.
However, applying for a place on the site does not guarantee acceptance. The charities are promoting their Golden Bonds to runners and supporters elsewhere.
Stacey Yeates, Challenge Events Manager at WellChild, the national charity for sick children, said: “The ability for us to list our charity places on the JustGiving website easily enables new and existing supporters to get involved and secure their place for the world’s largest one-day fundraiser.”
The London Marathon takes place on 17 April 2011.
Over 7,000 charities have used JustGiving since 2001, and over 12 million people have used it to raise £700 million for these charities.
