Competition winner pays it forward with hog roast prize

A woman who won a hog roast in a social media competition has used her prize to feed the hungry in a charity mini triathlon event.
Ceri Phillips from Llanrwst, Conwy, won the hog roast from with Porc.Wales as part of its ‘Porximity’ campaign, which encourages people to buy pork from Wales at local suppliers.
The Porc.Wales’ ‘Hog It!’ competition required participants to enter the location of an upcoming event they were hosting on the new ‘Porximity’ search function on the Porc.Wales website, and tweet their local Pork from Wales supplier tagging @Porc_Wales and using the hashtag #HogIt. Phillips won the competition after tagging her local supplier Moch Cymreig Fedwen.
She then decided to pay it forward by using the hog roast at a charity event in aid of Welsh Friends of Nepal: a charity she cofounded with Ian Roberts from Llanrwst after the Nepal earthquake in 2015.
With friend Rob Boyns from Ruthin competing in his fourth Ironman challenge this year to raise money for Welsh Friends of Nepal, the pair decided to celebrate and congratulate his Ironman achievement with a mini triathlon competition, using the hog roast to feed the hungry guests.
Melanie Cargill, from Hybu Cig Cymru, the levy body behind the Porc.Wales campaign, said:

“It’s great to see that our competition prize is being used for a very worthy cause. It sounds as though Ceri’s guests will be working up an appetite in the mini triathlon, so we do hope they enjoy the delights of eating Pork from Wales.”
