‘Fearless fundraisers’ will gather in London this month at the launch of ‘adventure philanthropy’ network The Inspired 50.
At The Inspired 50 launch event at Glazier’s Hall, London, on 16 February 2015, four members of The Inspired 50 Network will give tips on how to prepare to take on a challenge as an adventure philanthropist and bring social change to the communities they visit.
The Inspired 50 Network was the idea of adventure philanthropy company Inspired Escapes that creates “exciting adventures for travellers who want to support the communities they visit through social change projects”. It has been seed-funded by the City of London Corporation’s charity, City Bridge Trust, as part of its project City Philanthropy: A Wealth of Opportunity that works to support the next generation of City philanthropists.

Four adventure philanthropist speakers

The speakers at the launch are:
• Julia Immonen: Author, Sports Sky News presenter, Sport for Freedom founder, and double world record Atlantic Ocean Rower.
• Steve Partridge: City entrepreneur, ultra marathon desert runner, and philanthropist
• Sonal Kadchha: City Professional and co-founder of charity ETC, which has built the first secondary school in the Maasai Mara, Kenya providing girls with a path to employment and away from childhood marriage and FGM.
• Dave Cornthwaite: Author, filmmaker, and record-breaking Expedition1000 adventurer making 25 journeys of 1,000 miles or more, each using a different form of non-motorised transport.
Afzaal Mauthoor, Inspired Escapes co-founder, said:

“The Inspired 50 brings together 50 extraordinary ‘adventure philanthropists’ to act as role models. It provides a public platform to share their life-changing stories, with the aim to inspire City professionals to join them by finding their own challenges and fundraising directly to the local project not just for a charity’s brand.”

Cheryl Chapman, Director of City Philanthropy – A Wealth of Opportunity, added:

“Bringing together London’s most fearless philanthropists to support each other and inspire others to follow them is a great way to spread the excitement and joy of making a real difference to the world.”

One event being planned by some of the Inspired 50 members is an international marathon in Uganda. It is designed to raise funds to “create lasting change for vulnerable street children in the region” but also to allow runners to raise funds for their favourite cause anywhere in the world.
