Ireland Funds invites grant applications

After several years in which the Ireland Funds have not been open for grant applications, the organisation is once again inviting applications from charities in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The Ireland Funds is the largest worldwide network of people of Irish ancestry and friends of Ireland dedicated to raising funds to support programmes of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community development throughout the island of Ireland.
Just before Christmas the Worldwide Ireland Funds announced the launch of the Promising Ireland Campaign, a fundraising initiative with a goal of raising $100 million among its global network on four continents by 2013.
The Ireland Funds say that projects funded under this round may be considered for further funding.
According to the organisation’s website: “The objective of the grant round is to enable as many organisations as possible to fund new and innovative responses to social need. When a project has proven its capacity, often on the back of a grant round gift, the Funds may bring it to the attention of individual donors for consideration. This policy determines the number and size of awards.”
Projects seeking larger grant amounts (over €25,000) will not be processed through this grant round, according to the organisation. Such proposals will be considered on an individual basis for possible presentation to donors. There is no minimum grant but the average is €7,000.
The new grants round opened on 1 February and will close on 31 March 2011. Applicants will be notified in June 2011. Applications will be considered under the Ireland Funds’ four themes.
