Visual impairment charity's new Web site to help it cut costs

The Macular Disease Society’s new Web site is designed to help it both raise funds and reduce administrative costs.

The new site will be designed by new media agency Nemisys Enterprises which specialises in the not-for-profit sector.

As well as building up the membership of the Society the site is designed to help the charity reduce distribution costs. Currently the society sends out 52,000 copies of its quarterly magazine ‘Side View’ by post each year, in large print and audio tape format. The new site will improve the availability of services by making them available online with downloadable documents and audio files. Over time, the charity believes that its members will choose to download this information rather than receive it by post, allowing it to invest the savings in
other projects and research.

John Duffy, marketing director for Nemisys said: “An effective online presence will give the society a two-pronged
approach to help it increase the overall size of its funding pot. Raising awareness through online marketing and improving efficiency via online distribution will prove very effective in achieving this
objective.”
