Community Recycling fund is increased to £36.5 million

Howard Lake | 11 May 2004 | News

CRED, the Community Recycling and Economic Development Programme, has increased its funding to £36.5 million, after been awarded £1.5 million by the New Opportunities Fund.

The increase in funding followed CRED’s first distribution of £10 million in funding. The programme aims to improve the quality of life of communities in England through establishing new waste recycling, reuse or composting projects in areas where they do not currently exist, and to expand existing schemes.

The extra money will extend the CRED Programme allowing projects an extra year in which to complete their work. Groups can still apply for the maximum three years of funding, if they submit their application in the next few months.

The deadline for final submission of applications remains September 2005. However, December 2007 replaces December 2006 as the date by which projects must have completed work and claimed their grants.

Groups can now apply for the maximum £300,000 grant for capital costs alone: previously this was limited to £100,000. They can also make up to three applications per Government region instead of the original limit of one.
