Bad weather hits N Ireland fundraising events

The unseasonably bad weather in Northern Ireland has caused a number of charities to cancel or postpone fundraising events.
Cancer Focus, formerly the Ulster Cancer Foundation, had to cancel its Obel Abseil event at the weekend due to high winds and snow. The charity says it is not sure when it will get another date that suits the Obel, Northern Ireland’s tallest building, and everyone who had committed to take part.
The charity also had to cancel a half marathon in Larne and another marathon in Ards went ahead but because of the weather was poorly attended. On the positive side, Cancer Focus says the postponement may give people a greater opportunity to raise more sponsorship money.

Northern Ireland Hospice Care’s fundraising activities were also hit with the charity postponing a Tribute Service. NI Hospice Care say the event will be rescheduled for later in the year.
Charities organising events in the east of Northern Ireland were worst affected by the weather and while there is not much snow forecast up to Easter, low temperatures mean the snow will be slow in clearing.
