Irish philanthropy awards launched

The Community Foundation for Ireland has launched its 2012 Philanthropist of the Year Awards.
Categories for nominations include National, International and Corporate Philanthropist of the Year. The awards are now in their fifth year and this will be the first time an award will be given within the corporate sector.
The introduction of a corporate giving category to the Philanthropist of Year Awards hopes to encourage companies to demonstrate their extent of giving and encourage other companies to follow suit.
“The Awards aim to publicly recognise people and also, for the first time, companies whose giving has made an outstanding and lasting contribution in their communities and to society. Recognising corporate philanthropy for the first time will assist in setting a standard or target for companies to achieve in terms of their philanthropic giving,” said Tina Roche, CEO of The Community Foundation for Ireland.
Nominations are invited from the general public – including community and voluntary organisations, charities, welfare groups, arts and sports bodies, churches and foundations that work in partnership with philanthropists and have knowledge of the value and impact of the contribution and benefit that a donor has made.
The closing date for nominations is 31 August 2012. Nominations forms are available online on the community foundation website. The awards ceremony will take place in December 2012.
