Melchester Rovers to sport the National Literacy Trust logo on its shirts
Roy of the Rovers publisher Rebellion is teaming up with National Literacy Trust to launch limited edition Melchester Rovers football shirts ahead of a new book.
The fictional football team is following in the footsteps of other clubs who have featured charities as their ‘shirt sponsor’ and the National Literacy Trust’s logo will adorn the shirts in the new books.

In addition, real shirts with the logo are being created and sold from Hope & Glory, in a range of sizes for children and adults.

The launch comes ahead of Sudden Death, the latest Tom Palmer book in the Roy of the Rovers series, being published in September, followed a month later by New Digs, the next comic in the series written by Rob Williams.
Roy of the Rovers fiction author and Ruth Rendell Award winner Tom Palmer has worked with the charity to bring the magic of author events to schools in person for many years and in more recent times through digital events and live story writing. He is a dedicated ambassador for getting children into reading and writing through their love of sport.

Jim Sells, Sport and Literacy Programme Manager at the National Literacy Trust, said:
“We’re fierce supporters of the adventures of Roy Race and his sister Rocky and we’re really proud to have the National Literacy Trust logo featured on these special Melchester Rovers shirts! Tom Palmer, Rob Williams and the exciting Roy and Rocky of the Rovers stories have all helped us to engage young readers, especially those who may be a bit reluctant to reading but love football!”
The shirts will be available to pre-order until 31 August 2021.
