Barnardo’s announces Lynn Perry as CEO, & other movers

With today’s announcement that Lynn Perry has taken up the role of CEO at Barnardo’s, here’s more news of this, as well as of some other appointments, including new CEOs for Royal British Legion Industries, and Spring Impact.
Lynn Perry appointed CEO of Barnardo’s
Barnardo’s has announced Lynn Perry MBE as its new permanent CEO. Perry has worked at the charity for 13 years, most recently as Interim Co-CEO, alongside Michelle Lee-Izu. She joined in 2008 as an Assistant Director of Children’s Services before being promoted to Regional Director North West in 2013. Since 2019 she has served as the Corporate Director for Children’s Services with responsibility for around 800 services, reaching over 300,000 vulnerable children, young people and families across the UK. Prior to joining Barnardo’s, Perry worked at The Children’s Society in children’s services operational and leadership roles, and in local authority roles including youth offending, education and youth services. In 2007 she received an MBE for services to youth justice in the North West of England, in recognition of her work.

Lisa Farmer takes over as CEO at Royal British Legion Industries
Royal British Legion Industries has appointed Lisa Farmer as Chief Executive, with Steve Sherry CMG OBE retiring after 12 years leading the military charity. Farmer first joined RBLI six years ago since when she has held positions as Director of Strategic Development and latterly Deputy Chief Executive. As is the charity’s tradition, on his final day, Sherry was paraded through the charity’s Kent village. Veterans, residents and charity staff alike took to the streets to wave off the former Brigadier as he rode on a Will MB US Army Jeep, used by British airborne forces during the Second World War. His journey through the 75-acre site ended with him literally passing the baton to Farmer.
Mohamed Osman takes over as Spring Impact CEO
Spring Impact has appointed Mohamed Osman as its new CEO. Since 2020, Osman has been Spring Impact’s UK Director, developing and leading the UK’s office strategy and operations, as well as overseeing a portfolio of domestic and international projects. He has 20 years of experience of building partnerships, implementing and scaling programmes in global health, social enterprise and humanitarian assistance across 25 countries. Previously Global Grants Director at Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), Osman spent a decade growing the Foundation. He succeeds Dan Berelowitz, Spring Impact’s Founder, who, after a decade of leading the organisation, will now be moving into the role of ‘Founder’ at Spring Impact.
Adam Rutherford announced as next President of Humanists UK
Humanists UK has announced geneticist, science writer, broadcaster, and humanist Adam Rutherford as its next President. He will succeed current President Alice Roberts in June 2022 who, like her predecessors as President, will become a Vice President of Humanists UK. Rutherford has been a high-profile ambassador and patron of Humanists UK for many years, especially as an advocate for robust science education and against religious discrimination in state faith schools. As President, he has pledged to spearhead both those campaigns, as well as Humanists UK’s campaign for assisted dying. He will also continue Humanists UK’s work of connecting the millions of non-religious people in the UK who hold to values of the humanist approach to life.
Samaritans Scotland appoints Amanda Millar as Scotland Committee Chair
Amanda Millar is joining Samaritans Scotland at the end of this month as its new Scotland Committee Chair. She will also become the Scotland Trustee for Samaritans UK and Ireland, and replaces Natalie Stevenson, who has been Scotland Trustee and Committee Chair since 2019. Millar is the first solicitor in Scotland accredited by the Law Society in both Mental Health Law and Incapacity & Mental Disability Law, and is also a past SCVO Policy Committee Member and previous board member and Chair of Mindspace, as well as the first non-executive Chair of Changing the Chemistry (SCIO), a post she held until September 2019. Most recently she held the position of President of the Law Society of Scotland.
Brian Higgins steps down as CEO of Resource Alliance
Brian Higgins is stepping down from his position as CEO of Resource Alliance, having been offered an opportunity to reconceive the delivery of mental health and disability services in Ireland. His last official day with Resource Alliance will be 4 April — although he will continue working with it on a pro bono basis over the next few months. Willeke van Rijn steps into Higgin’s role, effective immediately. van Rijn has held senior positions with SOS Children’s Villages, Oxfam, and FUNDES — working across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. She has been involved in Resource Alliance operations for some time and began the handover process in mid-February.
