Recycling Raises Funds in the Fight Against Cancer

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is celebrating after its innovative fundraising Recycling Appeal hit the £125,000 mark. The milestone total was raised by supporters recycling old mobile phones and printer cartridges on the charity’s behalf.
The Foundation, the only charity in the world dedicated solely to defeating lung cancer, has been running the appeal with recycling experts Redeem Plc for over five years now. The valuable funds raised by the Roy Castle Recycling Appeal help the charity continue its vital work into lung cancer research, patient care and support and tobacco education initiatives.
Janine Drew, Fundraising Manager for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation commented:
“We are delighted to have reached this point in the appeal and would like to take this opportunity to thank the individuals and businesses who have supported the campaign by sending in items to be recycled. It really just goes to show that it is possible to make something out of nothing. We would urge people who still currently throw away their old mobile phones and cartridges to take just a few moments of their time to donate them instead. It is free, simple to do and really does make a difference.”
The appeal not only raises much needed funds for the Foundation but also plays an important role in helping the environment – when mobile phones and cartridges are dumped in landfill sites they leak dangerous toxic substances into the surrounding soil polluting the environment. By bagging these items and sending them into the campaign rather than binning them, every member of the public can help protect their environment.
