Comic Relief songs top the charts

Comic Relief, which raised a record £40,236,142 by the end of Friday’s telethon, is also top of the pops after the Sugababes vs Girls Aloud reached the number one spot in the UK charts with their Comic Relief single ‘Walk This Way’.

At the same time, another Comic Relief song, performed by Phoenix Night’s Brian Potter and Little Britain’s Andy Pipkin (comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas respectively), entered the charts at number three. They sang a celebrity-studded comedy version of ‘(I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles’ by The Proclaimers.

This song’s success follows that of Peter Kay’s effort for Comic Relief in 2005 in which he mimed to Tony Christie’s 1971 ‘Is This the Way to Amarillo’.
