New disabled young people's charity launches £160,000 'Stargaze' appeal

A new charity dedicated to helping all young people with disabilities to enjoy life to the full is launching a £160,000 ‘StarGaze’ appeal. SpecialEffect will use the funds to loan out specially-adapted computer games or gaze-controlled computers. It is being launched this week by rugby player Matt Hampson, who was paralysed while training with the England under 21 team, with the support of The Leicester Tigers Rugby Club.
Hampson, who is the charity’s patron, could not speak and could only only move his eyes after the injury. Having used the technology himself, he said: “Even if you can’t have all the technology available immediately, it’s when you’re there in hospital that you need to know that this technology is out there and this project will help people in exactly this way.”
