Weight loss is Leukaemia CARE's gain
Two Worcester men have engaged in a battle of the bulge that will see them lose weight and Leukaemia CARE gain vital funds!
It all began when Bob Marley, who owns The Phoneworks in Upton Snodsbury, went on a skiing holiday with his tubby†chums Simon Grinnell and Phil Cutts. A bit of friendly banter about their weight led to a £500 bet being placed to encourage them to take up a challenge to be the first to lose two stone, or to lose the most weight in six months. The loser will hand over their £500 wager to Leukaemia CARE.
An official weigh in at Cannons Health Club at the end of January confirmed that both men seriously needed to shed some extra pounds with ‘Sumo Simon’ weighing in at 16st 12lb, and Phat Phil†rocking the scales at 18st 8lb.
They are already off to a good start. At mid February’s weigh-in Phil, owner of Torque Speed in Blackpole, had already lost a stone – half his target weight loss, whilst Simon who works alongside Bob, was doing well with a weight loss of 6lbs but still has a lot of catching up to do.
Bob said: This is all being done in good humour but the health concerns are serious – the results of the initial weigh in don’t make pretty reading! This challenge will give Simon and Phil the motivation they need to lose weight and improve their health and whatever happens, a very worthy cause will benefit from some much needed funds. I’ll be keeping a close eye on them for the next few months to make sure they keep up the good work.â€
Leukaemia CARE’s fundraising manager Louise Carlin added: This challenge is putting the fun into fundraising and whatever the result of the competition, it really is a win-win situation and we are delighted that Simon and Phil have offered to support Leukaemia CARE.â€
If anyone would like to sponsor Simon or Phil and help boost Leukaemia CARE’s funds please contact Louise on 0870 7743667.
