Parkinson's Disease Society launches Christmas Wishes campaign
The Parkinson’s Disease Society is contacting existing supporters this Christmas outlining what the charity hopes to achieve in 2008 and inviting extra donations to help make these wishes come true.
TDA has devised the campaign which focuses on the need for care, education and support, both for people with the condition and their carers. The story of Michael and Lesley Swift is used to demonstrate the importance of support at a local level. Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 12 years ago and the couple is involved with one of the charity’s local branches. This network of branches provides a much needed lifeline to people affected by the condition throughout the UK.
Our aim is to make sure everybody affected by Parkinson’s disease has access to emotional and practical support, says Lorna Robertson-Reed, Direct Marketing Manager at the PDS. We want to build on existing services over the next 12 months and expand our current offering. For instance, our Education & Training Officers have a wide reaching influence through their activities with home workers, GPs and other medical professionals. By doubling the number of these officers we could make a significant impact on the quality of care at a national level.
