Dyslexia Action Awards Dinner raises record £150,000

Dyslexia Action raised over £150,000 at its sixth annual fundraising awards dinner, entitled ‘Difference’, at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Tuesday 20 November.

At the dinner, the charity honoured Jerry Hall, Ruby Wax, Lynda La Plante and Standard Chartered Bank Chairman Mervyn Davies, as people who have had outstanding success in their fields despite their dyslexia. The charity also honoured Celia Blakey, a campaigner for dyslexic people.

The Rt. Hon Ruth Kelly MP and actors Alan Rickman and Imogen Stubbs presented the awards. Special guests included The Rt. Hon David Blunkett MP, musician Bill Wyman, writer Kathy Lette, Olympian Alan Pascoe, children’s author Sally Gardner, singer Floella Benjamin and designer Lindka Cierach.

Author and president of Dyslexia Action Ken Follett was Master of Ceremonies. Entertainment was provided by the comic musical quartet Four Poofs and a Piano.

The London College of Fashion showcased costumes from their theatrical collection (25% of students attending the college are dyslexic) and the children’s choir from Combe Bank School performed.
