BBC Children in Need raises £19,089,771

The 28th annual BBC Children in Need telethon last night raised £19,089,771. The 2am total was the most the appeal has raised on the evening, but as usual the final figure will be much higher, as the public sends in the money raised at fundraising events.
The seven-hour broadcast was co-hosted by Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton, and linked BBC centres all over the country.
During the telethon BT handled nearly 212,000 calls from viewers across the country. The largest of the call centres was based on the 34th floor of BT Tower in London. BBC presenter Angellica Bell and 11 members of the Eastenders cast joined hundreds of volunteers to handle the calls.

BT also handled over 36,000 online donations for the charity. Over 15,000 donations were made via the Red Button.
BT’s Pete Coles, who appeared on the show, said: “At peak times, the BT network was handling more than 100 calls every second! We’ve had more than 2,500 volunteers in 50 call centres across the UK manning the phone lines and we answered more than 200,000 calls.”
Donations are still being accepted by phone and online.
