Saffron Building Society 'overwhelmed' with charities' applications

Saffron Building Society reports that it “has been overwhelmed with applications from charities seeking cash to support their activities”. But it is promising a new scheme shortly to give away 12 £500 grants.

Earlier this year the Society invited charities in Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk to apply for a chance to receive a £10,000 donation to help them in their work in the area. So far it has received nearly 80 applications, more than ever before. According to Society chief executive Andy Golding “they are of a very high standard.”

The closing date has now passed and the winner will be announced in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile the Society has said that it will launch a new scheme in September where each of its 12 branches will have £500 to give away to good causes in their locality.
