Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has made grants totalling over £42,000 to 750 charities and good causes across the country as part of its Make a Difference Week.

Make a Difference Week is an annual event that takes place in June. The Society’s customers and the general public are invited to call into any of the building society’s 131 branches or 65 agencies to nominate their favourite local charity to receive a cash award.

The money donated is generated by the Society’s Small Change, Big Difference scheme where members agree to donate just pennies from the interest they receive each year to a central charity fund.

Louise Neill of the Society’s Charitable Foundation said: We are absolutely delighted with the number of causes nominated as part of this year’s event, which has been the most successful in the Foundation’s history. The majority of good causes we have supported are small, local groups that are often overlooked by big organisations.

As much of the funding for the Charitable Foundation is donated by our customers, through the Small Change, Big Difference scheme, we are keen that they have the opportunity to decide which charities receive support. This year over 90% of the donations made during Make a Difference Week were suggested by members.”
