Plan International UK uses virtual reality to promote its Because I am a Girl campaign
Plan International UK is the latest charity to use a virtual reality, 360 degree film to bring to life the work it does and the people it supports.
Mamie’s Dream features Mamie, a woman who shares her experiences of growing up as a girl in Sierra Leone. In the 2 min 18 sec film she explains her childhood dream to be a teacher, and the challenges she and girls like her encounter, including FGM and negative attitudes to girls’ education. When her daughter went to school she decided to volunteer there and from there she has secured teacher training. “Now they see a woman can become a teacher”, she says, despite her family and local community’s expectations.
Plan International UK’s Because I am a Girl campaign is challenging negative attitudes of women and girls across the world and aims to ensure that girls have the same rights as boys.
The virtual reality film concludes with a call to sign up to the Because I am a Girl campaign. There is no fundraising ask, but it is possible that the film, like other VR films such as charity: water’s, could be used in that context.
