A campaign to reclaim the Twitter egg avatar from cyber trolls and raise money for anti-bullying charity Cybersmile has raised over £800 in a fortnight.
#EggAid was launched by Gadgette.com’s Holly Brockwell on 15th March with £500 fundraising target. The campaign raised £115 in its first half hour, and had raised £841.50 when it ended on 28th March.

It asked people to choose an egg and click to donate the cost of that egg to Cybersmile, which will use the money to help children who have been bullied and trolled online. The campaign also aimed to reclaim the reputation of the Twitter egg avatar, which has become associated with Twitter trolls who often use it to front the accounts they use to bully people through.

Eggs on offer ranged from a £3.50 family bag of Cadbury’s Mini Eggs, to a ‘fancypants’ egg for £10 and ‘THE GOLDEN EGG’ for £25. People could also choose their own amount to donate, and everyone who donated was entered into a prize draw to win first prize of a basketful of eggs, sponsored by Pat Testing Expert, or second prize, which included clothing, cushions and an art print, donated by Cakes with Faces.
