Starbucks supports charities with #RedCupCheer
The Starbucks #RedCupCheer challenge saw UK charity supporters send almost 100k tweets in support of their favourite causes last month, resulting in 200 small and local charities winning grants from the company.
Starbucks invited small and local charities to register for the challenge in November, with 200 chosen to participate. The 100 charities that received the most social media support won £1000 each, with the remaining 100 winning £500.
Over the course of the three-week challenge, supporters were asked to raise some noise for their chosen causes by tweeting the charities’ names along with the #RedCupCheer tag. Success was measured across Twitter by the total number of mentions for each of the charity names used with the #RedCupCheer tag on Twitter. The total number of social shares of the cause page from neighbourly.com was also measured along with each one’s total number of followers, with scores combined to make each charity’s final total.
Overall, more than 94,000 tweets and retweets using the tag were made, with followers sharing their support with photos and videos as well as festive tweets.
