Stuart Halbert Foundation increases its giving
The Stuart Halbert Foundation is to make grants of £1.2 million to charities in the North East of England. The money will be used over the next three years to support individuals and projects that benefit people, animals, the armed forces and local communities.
The increase in the Foundation's giving was announced last night at the Sage Gateshead, at which some of the main beneficiaries were announced. These included:
-
Sage Gateshead – will receive £500,000 to enable even greater connections between its artistic programme and the community and people with which it works;
-
Haltwhistle Community Campus – will receive £100,000 to support its newly acquired Academy status; and
- Opera North – will receive £150,000 to allow it to continue to invest in its work with communities.
About Stuart Halbert
The Stuart Halbert Foundation was set up in 2010 by members of the Halbert family to commemorate Stuart Halbert, who helped transformKilfrost from a family business into a global de/anti-icing brand. The Foundation also receives donations from Kilfrost.

Gary Lydiate, Chair of Trustees at the Stuart Halbert Foundation and CEO of Kilfrost said: “Stuart Halbert was not only instrumental in the growth of Kilfrost, he was proud of his roots in the North East. This fund is in his memory and should serve the local community and beyond to help those that may be disadvantaged or who simply merit our support."
The trustees have very straightforward criteria:
-
Are there sufficient funds available?
- Does the request come under one of the four broad categories:
-
People
-
Animal welfare
-
Armed forces
-
Local community
£160,000 is still to be allocated and organisations are invited to apply for this funding.
