Supporting local volunteer groups in their fundraising can be a difficult task for professional fundraisers. Volunteer fundraisers need information, advice and regular encouragement. The Parent Teachers Association in the US experimented with using the Internet last December as part of their efforts to support local fundraising groups.

Two regional directors of the PTA “chatted” online with volunteers from around the country. Participants asked for advice on a range of issues, including responsible fundraising, approaching local businesses, events held during class time, competing with other high school societies, and event insurance.

The chat took place on Children First, the Web site of the National PTA and the transcript has been published.
