They also serve: Forces Sauces raise funds for veterans’ charities

Howard Lake | 11 June 2013 | News

Two forces charities are to receive funds from the sale of Forces Sauces, which went on sale in Tesco this week. Corporal Ketchup and Brigadier Brown both come in 500ml bottles and are aiming to steal a march on competitors and to rank alongside other popular table sauces.

Sales of each bottle, which come in a distinctive soldier shape and bear the words 'Serve with pride', will generate at least 6p for the two charities, which will share the proceeds equally. Bottles are on sale for £2.19 RRP.

Veteran Bob Barrett came up with the idea of Forces Sauces in 2004. At that time, he turned for support to Stoll (formerly Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation), which enables vulnerable and disabled ex-Servicemen and women to live as independently as possible. This support includes apprenticeships, aided by the Royal British Legion. These have included chefs, whose culinary skills are now set to generate income to develop programmes that can change even more lives. Forces Sauces was his way of giving back to the charity that had helped him.

Britons spend almost £200 million a year on tomato ketchup and brown sauce, so Forces Sauces have a large potential market in their sights. In addition, the brand plans to expand its general activities on the home front with major new products.
