UK Christian charities launch their own tsunami appeal

Howard Lake | 6 January 2005 | News

Six Christian agencies have launched their own emergency fundraising appeal in response to the Asian tsunami earthquake disaster.

The appeal is entitled ‘A Christian Response’ and is described as “a joint fund-raising response amongst like-minded agencies”. The partner organisations are Christian Hope International, Glasgow the Caring City, Global Hand, The Vines Trust, Mercy Trucks and World Emergency Relief (WRF).

The appeal is designed to be distinct from that of the Disasters Emergency Committee. Alex Haxton, Director of Operations at World Emergency Relief, told Ekklesia: “The Disasters Emergency Committee and other national appeals although important, can bypass many other agencies who are doing valuable work and who also need funding.”
