Canadian fundraising companies to be licenced

Howard Lake | 16 October 2002 | News

For-profit, fundraising companies operating in Saskatchewan, Canada, will need to apply for licences after the Charitable Fund-raising Businesses Act comes into force later this year.

According to CharityVillage.com, fundraising businesses will need “to obtain a licence from the registrar of charities, providing proof of financial stability and meeting various other standards of reliability and integrity.” Fines for contravening the Act range from $10,000 to $100,000 or imprisonment.

A steering committee consisting of charity sector and government representatives looked at a range of options including self-regulation, but opted for licensing of fundraising businesses.
