Interim Charity Commission Chair sees term extended until June

Ian Karet has had his term as Interim Chair of the Charity Commission extended until June following Martin Thomas’s resignation last month, shortly after he was confirmed as Chair.
Thomas stepped down days before he was due to take up the job, over allegations he had acted inappropriately while Chair of Women for Women International UK.
Just before Christmas, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport extended Ian Karet’s term as the Interim Chair of the Charity Commission from 27 December 2021 to 26 June 2022, whilst the appointment process for a permanent Chair is conducted. Karet was appointed as Interim Chair in February last year.

Karet joined the Charity Commission Board in January 2019. He is a solicitor and a partner of Linklaters LLP. He is a part-time Deputy High Court Judge and a member of the Civil Justice Council.
As interim Chair, he has a 1.5 days per week time commitment, which is remunerated at £37,500 per annum (pro rata for time in service). The full-time Chair role is for a three year term, and for two and a half days per week, remunerated at £62,500 a year.
