9 ways companies are supporting good causes
From Morrison’s Good to Grow scheme, to Morgan Stanley’s fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust, here are 9 more corporate partnerships.
Morrisons Good to Grow
Free gardening equipment is on offer to schools from Morrisons through its Good to Grow initiative. For every £10 spent in store or online at Morrisons, shoppers get a Grow Token to help their school get everything they need to get growing. People can download the MyMorrisons app to start collecting Grow Tokens and choose the school they would like to donate them to. Their chosen school will be able to exchange their Grow Tokens for free gardening equipment. Pitching for Morrisons’ 2022-25 charity partner is also underway. Five charities pitched in September, with two to be chosen to go through to the colleague vote.
Teenage Cancer Trust & Morgan Stanley
Teenage Cancer Trust’s partnership with Morgan Stanley has raised over £1.4 million to provide specialist nursing care, support and dedicated facilities for young people with cancer. The achievement smashes its original target of raising £1m. Over £800,000 of the money raised by the partnership, which draws to a close this month, is being used by Teenage Cancer Trust to help develop a new ward for young patients and a new waiting space at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). Once complete, the new ward will become a relaxing and welcoming environment for young people, their families and friends, which feels more like home than a hospital ward. In a different part of the hospital, the money raised will enhance a waiting space for young people undergoing proton beam therapy.
In Kind Direct & Procter & Gamble
In Kind Direct has now distributed over 30 million personal hygiene and cleaning items during its 20-year partnership with Procter & Gamble to over 7,500 UK charities. Some of their major brand donations have included: almost 12 million tampons and towels from Always and Tampax, almost 15 million baby items from Pampers, 1.4 million cleaning products from Fairy, and 4.1 million grooming products from Gillette.
Movember & Pringles
Pringles has announced it is supporting Movember for a second year, following the success of last year’s partnership. The brand is encouraging shoppers to start a conversation over a can of Pringles by offering a voucher for a free small can (40g) with every standard can (200g) bought from 1–21 September in Tesco stores. Pringles fans will be encouraged to send the voucher directly to a friend, along with some useful advice from Movember on how to approach difficult conversations. Together, Pringles and Movember are aiming to drive more open conversations around mental health and encourage people to ‘Pop, Share, Chat’. Pringles has also announced that it will be donating a minimum of £75,000 to the charity.
The Sleep Charity & Furniture Village
The Sleep Charity has partnered with Furniture Village to launch the UK’s first dedicated sleep helpline where trained specialists will support individuals with their sleep concerns five days a week. The Charity and Furniture Village conducted some research with OnePoll to asses the nation’s sleep concerns and the results showed that more than a quarter (28 per cent) said a bad night’s sleep had affected their mental health. This figure rose to a staggering 50 per cent of those aged 18 to 24.
Wondrous Woods & Maggie’s
Scotland lighting trail Wondrous Woods has chosen Maggie’s as its charity partner for 2021. The lighting trail, which runs from 21 October to 14 November, will illuminate Hopetoun House, just outside Edinburgh, and light up a magical woodland journey through its grounds. Visitors will have the chance to donate to the charity while to celebrate the organisation’s 25th anniversary, on 4 November a Maggie’s logo will appear illuminated against the backdrop of the House and orange lasers will punctuate the trail. Wondrous Woods is also offering discounted tickets to 250 Maggie’s newsletter readers and running a social media competition to win family tickets for the event and the opportunity to experience the grandeur of the ancestral home with an evening of drinks, plus a hamper of food courtesy of Maggie’s, served in the Tapestry Room.
Alex’s Wish & Synergy Personnel Services
Leicestershire-based recruitment company Synergy Personnel Services has taken on Leicestershire-based charity Alex’s Wish as its Charity of the Year. The company already has their first fundraiser planned, which is the Lykewake Walk, a 42 mile walk done over a 24-hour period and taking in the highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales. They’re also busy organising a charity Sports Day plus lots of other events over the next 12 months.
Benefit Mankind & Blackburn Rovers
Football club Blackburn Rovers has announced a new charity partnership with Blackburn-based charity Benefit Mankind. Throughout the course of the season, the charity will benefit from fundraising and awareness activities, including a dedicated match day at Ewood Park and support from player ambassador Bradley Johnson. London’s Air Ambulance Charity & Bolt
London ride-hailing operator Bolt is partnering with London’s Air Ambulance Charity. Bolt launched the partnership by hosting a dedicated London’s Air Ambulance ride-type on its app. The ride-type will work like a normal Bolt ride, but with every trip passengers can donate 50p of the fare directly to London’s Air Ambulance Charity. The category has been available in the Bolt app in London in the run up to Air Ambulance Week between 6-12 September. Bolt’s logo will also appear on the red helicopter, with its UK team participating in numerous fundraising activities for the charity over 2021. In addition to its initial sponsorship commitment, Bolt is supporting London’s Air Ambulance Charity in attracting new supporters with a marketing campaign on its app aimed at increasing public awareness of the charity.
