Training for prospect researchers

Howard Lake | 5 October 2016 | Blogs

I was once described as being a bit “old school” as a prospect researcher. While I think that I have come up with a few new ideas along the way, I reckon that is fair comment. It can’t be all bad, as I get repeat work from clients, and still have new clients, based on recommendations. That said, I hope to learn a few new things at the next Researchers in Fundraising conference in London, in November. I have already signed up for some workshops.
I am also tempted to sign up for one or more of the training being organised separately by Ben Rymer. Ben is one of those people who encourages researchers and fundraisers to use data in different ways. He has organised trainers to run three training sessions in London, on 7th, 8th and 9th November. Introducing Structured Query Language (SQL), Introducing RStudio, and SQL for Prospect Research. SQL will allow you to go beyond Excel by running more complex queries and dealing with far larger datasets than spreadsheets can handle.  RStudio, a free and open-source integrated development environment (IDE) for R, a programming language for statistical computing and graphics. RStudio also has data visualisation capabilities.  If you want details of the courses, contact Ben via LinkedIn or twitter (@BenRymer).
