Jewson has announced that 28 projects from across the UK have won its 2016 Building Better Communities competition, with each receiving a share of the £250,000 prize fund.
The Eden-Rose Coppice Trust won the top prize of a £150,000 transformation, with the remaining 27 projects each winning a share of the £100,000 regional prize fund.
More than 1,800 community projects were nominated in the competition, which launched in March. These were reduced to a shortlist of 59 by employees and suppliers from across the UK, and the shortlist then put to a public vote and further judging.
The 27 regional winners will each receive between £1,000 to £6,000 to spend on building materials.
The winners received their prizes at an awards ceremony at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham, presented by property expert and TV presenter, Sarah Beeny.
This year saw the prize fund increased from 2015’s £100,000. Suppliers involved in the 2016 Building Better Communities include British Gypsum, Marshalls, VELUX, Polypipe and Tarmac.
David Fenton, marketing director at Jewson, said:

“We received a huge number of entries and a record number of votes via Facebook so it’s a great achievement for the winners. We recognise that there are community buildings across the UK in need of some care and attention, so we upped the prize for 2016 to ensure that we help turn these buildings into spaces that entire communities can enjoy.”
