Peter Rabbit makes his Royal Mint debut

Melanie May | 4 March 2016 | News

The Royal Mint has launched a limited edition 2016 commemorative 50p coin featuring Peter Rabbit.
The coin is part of a series being launched across the year to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter. The first Beatrix Potter coin was revealed at the turn of the year, and following last month’s Peter Rabbit 50p, a further three coins finished in full colour will be released in 2016.
Peter Rabbit is the first children’s literary character to appear on a coin. The special edition coloured Peter Rabbit coin launched in February with uncoloured versions of the coins to appear in change later this year.
Each coin’s obverse side bears the fifth definitive portrait of The Queen by Royal Mint Engraver Jody Clark, which was first introduced to UK coinage in 2015.
The design has been created by Royal Mint Engraver Emma Noble and endorsed by Frederick Warne & Co.
