Tesco gives €1 million to good causes

Tesco Ireland has donated €1 million in the Republic of Ireland for charitable causes.
The Tesco Community Fund will be distributed over the next year to projects at local level, with Tesco’s 146 stores accepting nominations. Every six weeks up to €1,000 will be divided between three causes which will equate to around 3500 projects supported over the year.
The causes will be selected by a vote at the local store and can include a wide variety of charitable, voluntary and community activity. Schools and sports groups can also apply.
Currently Tesco also selects a ‘charity of the year’ for a major fundraising drive and the Community Fund is additional to that initiative. Last year Tesco raised €2 million for Aware though its charity of the year.  This year Tesco selected three charities and the relationship will end in February 2015.
The Community Fund follows a successful pilot project run earlier this year. Organisations nominated for the Community Fund will receive an information pack on how the Fund works and how to promote their cause.
