Trocaire income down by 10 percent

Howard Lake | 9 April 2014 | News

Irish development charity Trócaire’s income fell by over 10 percent last year, according to the latest annual accounts.

Total income in 2013 was just over €60 million, down from nearly €67 million in 2012. Much of the decline in income was due to a fall in voluntary income which was €16.6 million against €26.3 million in 2012.

Trócaire’s most high profile fundraising activity, the Lenten Campaign, held up well with income increasing slightly to €8.7 million (€8.5 million in 2012). General donations and bequests also increased slightly to €14.7 million.

The drop in income was mainly accounted for by ‘specified income’ which fell from €10.6 million to under €300,000. Trócaire’s Christmas campaign, Gifts of Change, fell from €1.8 million in 2012 to €1.7 million in 2013.

The organisation spent €4.8 million on fundraising and publicity, including €1.3 million in general advertising and €1.6 million on the Lenten campaign. Fundraising and publicity salary costs were €1.1 million.

Government funding increased from €23 million to over €27 million between 2012 and 2013. Institutional funding, which includes a range of local and international grant sources, fell from €8 million to €6.7 million.

Trócaire is the official overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland.
