Genel Energy donates $1m to Save the Children

Genel Energy plc  has donated $1 million to Save the Children to supports its work with Syrian refugees who have fled to the Kurdistan Regional Governorate in Iraq.
The donation comes as the refugees struggle with cold weather and recent snow storms. There are 200,000 Syrian refugees in this part of Iraq.
Genel Energy plc has headquarters in London and  offices in Ankara and Erbil. It is the largest independent oil producer and the largest holder of reserves in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The company is working with the Kurdistan Oil and Gas Humanitarian Initiative to co-ordinate and maximise the industry’s response to the refugee situation, including matching every dollar pledged by companies. It consists of members of the Kurdistan Ministry of Natural Resources, the UNHCR and a number of NGOs.
