Irish children’s charity income falls

Howard Lake | 18 September 2013 | News

The Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) has reported a decline in voluntary income of over €200,000 between 2011 and 2012.

Voluntary income decreased from €4.5 million to €4.3 million while the ISPCC also felt a squeeze in statutory funding which dropped from €652,000 in 2011 to €568,000 in 2012.

The fall in funding means that the organisation posted a deficit of over €500,000, roughly half the deficit in 2011. The ISPCC said they had experienced a ‘very difficult year for fundraising’ but remained positive about the future.

The charity has traditionally had strong support from celebrities and the corporate sector. A Robbie Williams concert at the 02 in Dublin raised €162,000 and the 15th Cheerios Childline Concert featuring The Script, JLS, Little Mix and Jedward raised €460,000.

Currently the charity is promoting the Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together, a campaign aimed at schools, crèches and businesses which last year raised €200,000.

In 2012 over €120,000 was donated to the ISPCC by regular monthly donors.

Fundraising costs for 2012 fell by over €50,000 to €1.3 million.
