Irish charity St Vincent de Paul will benefit from fundraising activities around the European Ryder Cup in 2014.

SVP is one of four charities selected by a new foundation, the McGinley Foundation, a registered charity launched this week by Irish European Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley. The Foundation has been announced as the fourth and final Official Charity of the 2014 Ryder Cup.

Three Scottish charities – the 2014 Ryder Cup will be played at Gleneagles in Scotland – have already been selected to benefit from the event. The Scottish charities are the Friends of St Margaret’s Hospital in Auchterarder, Perth and Kinross, Disability Sport, and Scotland’s family charity Quarriers.

Speaking at The Gleneagles Hotel, where he will lead Europe’s defence of The Ryder Cup against the United States, McGinley said: “I am delighted to officially launch The McGinley Foundation today and there is no more fitting place to be able to do so than here at Gleneagles.

“We are very fortunate, as professional golfers, to enjoy wonderful lives and, therefore, it is vitally important to have the opportunity to give something back to people, in a wide range of circumstances, less fortunate than ourselves”.

Dubliner Mr McGinley said his status as Ryder Cup Captain allowed him to select a charity. The Foundation will also support young person’s charity, Amber, based in England, children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent and the Tour Players Foundation.
