Irish radio station Today FM has raised ‚€200,000 for two local charities from the sales of a specially recorded CD. The money was shared between Barretstown, which provides breaks for children with serious illnesses, and the National Children’s Hospital.

‘Even Better than the Real Thing Vol. 2’ was released in November 2004 in association with producers RMG. This is the second album to be produced of the successful “Even Better” compilations.

The album features various artists performing a cover of a popular chart
hit live on air. This idea stemmed from a regular piece featured on the Ray D’Arcy Show, where musical guests played a cover track on air during the show.

Artists include BellX1, Juliet Turner, The Walls and the album also features the now famous version of “No Diggity” covered by Paddy Casey and the Dublin Gospel Choir.

Most of the tracks were recorded live on the Ray D’Arcy Show, some were
recorded in special sessions and one track was even recorded in a bedroom.

Speaking about the album, Ray D’Arcy said: “We are amazed that Even
Better than the Real Thing vol.2 has outperformed its predecessor – it’s a
win-win-win situation. EUR200,000 for two deserving charities and Irish
music fans get to hear their favourite singer songwriters like they’ve
never heard them before.”
