Fellowships for arts fundraisers open for applications

The Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy Fellowship programme is open for applications. The programme, the first of its kind in the UK, will select 11 "entrepreneurial self-starters with a passion for the arts" to benefit from a programme of support.

The programme is practice-based, and is designed to support the development of pool of talented fundraisers in the arts and culture sector. "We are looking for a new generation of entrepreneurial fundraisers that can ‘make things happen" say its organisers.

It has been created by DARE (the collaboration between Opera North and University of Leeds, and Cause4, together with other arts and education organisations across the north of England and London. The 12-month fellowships are certified by the University of Leeds.

The fellowships are funded by Arts Council England through its Transforming Arts Fundraising programme.

Applicants need not have had fundraising experience before. Indeed, they can be recent graduates or people looking for a career change. They will be benefit from an in-depth experience in the development department of organisations such as Sadlers Wells, the Sage Gateshead, Dance UK, and Liverpool Tate.

Peter Bazalgette, Chair, Arts Council England, said: “This is a marvellous opportunity for talented creative professionals to really get stuck in and learn all they can about fundraising for the benefit of the wider arts and culture sector.

"Our mixed economy funding model, with money coming from multiple sources, is what allows the arts and culture in this country to thrive. This is just one way in which the Arts Council is helping the sector develop its ability to maximise other income streams to work effectively alongside their public funding."

The deadline for applications to the Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy Fellowship programme is midnight on 1 July 2013. Fellowships will be awarded on 8 August, and they will begin in September or October.
