Charity Technology Trust (CTT) is offering the pocket-sized Flip video camera to eligible UK registered charities and charitable housing organisations through its CTXchange programme.

Flip video cameras are very easy to use, enabling users with any level of experience to create, edit and share movies easily. UK Fundraising has used them since October 2008 to record interviews, training sessions and conference presentations. The cameras can be used by charity staff, volunteers and constituents to support campaigning, fundraising, marketing and social media activities through digital story-telling.

Flip cameras are now discontinued but maker Cisco is making them available through CTXchange on a first come, first served basis.

“Corporate Social Responsibility is part of our DNA at Cisco.” said Patrick Verret, Cisco corporate affairs programme manager. “Through our long-time partnership with CTT, we hope to empower non-profit organisations to use human and technology networks to multiply their impact, and believe that video is one of the most powerful mediums for sharing their message.”

Note that there are quite detailed guidelines about entitlement and eligibility to receive a Flip. For example, they are not available for distribution to schools, health insurance or health plan providers, business or professional associations, agricultural organisations, mutual organisations, and quite a few other types of groups.
