Ireland Funds raise $7 million for Ireland

Howard Lake | 1 July 2010 | News

The Ireland Funds have raised $7 million so far this year for causes in Ireland, according to its chief executive Kieran McLoughlin.
The money will be used in the form of grants and gifts to arts, social and community organisations across the island of Ireland, according to a report in the Irish Times.
Kieran McLoughlin said the funds had been raised against a “relentlessly challenging economic and philanthropic environment”.
At its best the fund raised around $23 million in one year, although this year it says it expects to raise $14 million throughout its world network of funds.
In the past ten years, the American Ireland Fund, the largest of the 12 funds in the worldwide network, says it has provided $110 million to 1,200 organisations. It runs a series of high profile galas in the United States, with the most recent in New York raising around $3 million when it honoured U2’s singer Bono.
