Money raining in for Monsoon Charitable Trust

– Leading recruiter supports key partner with sizeable donation

This morning, one of the UK’s fastest growing independent driver and industrial recruitment companies pulled out its cheque book to help alleviate poverty in India.

Transline-Resource, which provides over 1000 professionally assessed HGV drivers and 3000 warehouse operatives a day to some of Britain’s biggest household name retailers and distributors, has donated £750 to support leading client, Monsoon Accessorize in sending volunteers to help its projects in the Indian subcontinent.

The clothing giant set up the Monsoon Accessorize Trust in 1994 to help disadvantaged women and children in Asia through practical programmes focused on education, health and income generation. It has since worked on numerous projects throughout Asia, helping to develop sustainable livelihoods within communities.

Today, it funds projects reaching some 10,000 women and children every year – including a programme in India to provide health care in remote villages, another to help cotton farmers convert to organic methods and a scheme in Afghanistan to help women to make a living from their traditional embroidery craft.

As well as securing funds and developing programmes, the Trust sees the role of volunteers from the UK as playing a crucial role in cross-cultural understanding. And to celebrate one year of operating its Wellingborough Distribution Centre, it decided to hold a prize draw for two lucky employees to travel to India and work as volunteers on its projects out there.

Since February 2009, Transline-Resource has provided Monsoon Accessorize with substantial numbers of warehouse operatives every day. Its effective solution has resulted in dramatically reduced labour costs, greater productivity and good relations between the two companies.

When Transline-Resource heard about the prize draw, it decided to make a sizeable donation to help pay for the volunteers’ travel costs. This morning, Managing Director, Paul Beasley and Director, Mark Elms presented its contribution to Monsoon Accessorize’s Chief Commercial Officer, Steve Back and General Manager, Michael Leeson at its Wellingborough Distribution Centre.

“From working closely with Monsoon Accessorize we’ve learnt a lot about the work of the trust and the importance of volunteering. We thought the idea of sending employees from Wellingborough to work on their projects was a fantastic one worthy of our support,” explained Paul Beasley.

Mark Elms added: “As well as having a good time, we hope the volunteers will have a positive impact and come back with an appetite for further involvement in improving the lives of people in developing countries.”

And Monsoon Accessorize Chief Commercial Officer, Steve Back was equally happy with Transline-Resource’s generosity:

“Our supplier relationships are very important to Monsoon Accessorize, not only for the day in day out support that Transline-Resource supply but also for those who are less fortunate and need help. Our charitable trust funds education, healthcare and income generation projects for disadvantaged women and children in Asia. We intend to make a difference and this donation is thankfully received to continue our work as we have for the last 21 years.”
