Applications deadline for BBC appeals is 6 October

The next deadline for applications for the BBC Radio 4 and Lifeline charity appeals is 6 October 2008.
Last year these appeals raised over £1 million for a wide range of charities.
A Radio 4 Appeal for the charity Sense in June raised £26,263 to go towards funding support workers. The appeal, presented by Richard Briers, told the story of Roy, who is deafblind.
Home-Start UK’s Lifeline was broadcast in July this year, raising £1,400. Ex-‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Bad Girls’ star Debra Stephenson, who presented the appeal, spent time talking to some of the families supported by Home-Start and went to the home of a father, who is bringing up his six children on his own after losing his wife last year.
The charity found that the broadcast enabled it to reach new audiences. “We are proud of the families that were filmed by the BBC”, said a spokesperson. “They explained their stories in an emotive and powerful way. We have had feedback from people who saw the appeal and they told us that the stories affected them and demonstrated the importance of Home-Start.
“BBC Three Counties Radio also interviewed one of the families used in the appeal, therefore reaching a different audience that we would not otherwise have reached. The father concerned found this to be a really positive experience for him.”
Rageh Omar’s Radio 4 Appeal for PENHA (Pastoral & Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa) in June raised £6,500, including £500 from one man who has decided to ask people to donate to the charity for his 90th birthday.
