Nike Human Race 10k to be "world's largest running event"

Howard Lake | 25 July 2008 | News

Sports manufacturer Nike is organising a global running event on 31 August 2008 which it claims will be the “world’s largest running event”. The Human Race 10k will involve race events in 25 cities around the world, but people can join in with their own event or solo run by registering at nikeplus.com.
Runners can use the specially branded “Nike + iPod or Nike+ SportBand to track your miles on race day and then download miles on nikeplus.com to have your results officially counted as part of the race”.
The main purpose of the event is “to celebrate runners and their sport while uniting athletes world-wide”. However, runners can choose to benefit one of three partner charities – the Lance Armstrong Foundation, UNHCR and WWF. Runners can encourage friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them, with the online pledging being handled by Global Giving.
