FUNDAY SUNDAY RAISES £5000 FOR
ST TEREA’S HOSPICE
02/07/07
A family fun-day has risen over £5048.86 for St Teresa’s Hospice’s new counselling service.
Darlington Market Place hosted the Funday Sunday, which was sponsored by the Royal Mail, on Sunday June 24. Kicking off at 1pm and lasting all afternoon, the event played host to a range of fundraising activities and family entertainment.
The event was a huge success, with over 500 people attending despite the bad weather. With no entrance fee to the family funday, funds were raised with thanks to an appearance by ‘Elvis’, a variety of stalls, fun fair rides and a special tombola.
Activities for the younger members of the crowd were provided by Wildchilds, specialists in children’s entertainment. This included face painting, Jenga, Connect 4, circus skills, penalty shoot-out, target practice and hoola-hoops.
Static displays, supplied by the Royal Mail, Darlington Fire Service and 50 Sig Squadron (Territorial Army), included a chip pan fire display, fire engine and wall climbing exercise.
Entertainment at the Funday Sunday was provided by the Hurworth Concert Band, the Darlington Boxing and Martial Arts Academy, the Shildon Jubilees Junior Jazz Band, Middlesbrough West Central Timbrels Salvation Army Band, Wildchilds Pirate Show and a troupe of Morris dancers.
The event was held in the name of the St Teresa’s Hospice’s Half a Million Hugs Campaign. All proceeds raised will go towards the charity’s new Counselling and Complimentary Therapies Centre, which is being built later this year.
St Teresa’s Hospice Director Jane Bradshaw, said: This year’s Funday Sunday was a huge success. The afternoon was filled with fun, games and entertainment, making it a real family day out.
St Teresa’s Hospice would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to help with or attend the event. We hope that everyone had a fantastic time while raising funds for the Half a Million Hugs campaign.
