New Director at Arts & Business Yorkshire

Richard Brown has been appointed as the new Director of Arts & Business Yorkshire, an independent affiliate of the national agency for creative partnerships between the arts and the private sector.

For the last 12 years, Richard has been a Director of successful Scottish creative business Soma Records, and its sister company SPG Publishing.

Richard also created ‘Soma Skool’, an educational outreach programme to encourage and educate young people about career opportunities in the creative and cultural industries. He also founded a music video scheme in partnership with Channel 4 and Scottish Screen to engage and support young film-makers.

Richard sits on a National Advisory Panel for the Creative and Cultural Sector Skills Council and was on the board of the Association of Independent Music.

Of his new move to Arts & Business Yorkshire, Richard said: “Yorkshire has a wealth of creative talent and enterprise as well as a dynamic commercial and industrial base. Our job is to be a catalyst between these two sectors and to help forge links which will strengthen communities both as recreational and economic centres.”
