Gerald Corbett to be new trustees' chairman at RNID

RNID, the charity for deaf and hard of hearing people, has appointed Gerald Corbett as the new Chairman of its Board of Trustees. He will take over in October 2007 from James Strachan who has been involved in the governance or management of RNID for the last 14 years.
During Strachan’s involvement the charity has increased turnover from £20 million to £50 million and been voted the most innovative voluntary organisation and most admired charity in recent years.
Corbett has been Chairman of Woolworths from 2001 to 2007, and holds non-executive positions at Britvic PLC (Chairman), SSL International (Chairman) and Greencore Group (Non-Executive Director).

He was previously Chief Executive of Railtrack PLC following a career as Group Finance Director at Grand Metropolitan PLC, Redland PLC and Dixons PLC. He was a Governor of Luton University and chairman of Governors at Abbots Hill School and a Trustee of Tonbridge School Foundation.
Strachan said: “I am delighted that we have been able to recruit a business leader of Gerald’s calibre and experience as our new Chairman. As well as being an accomplished Chairman in the private sector, he will also bring his knowledge of voluntary work in education and the community. I wish him every success.”
