Royal patron for Grooms-Shaftesbury

HRH The Princess Royal has agreed to be the Royal patron of newly-merged Christian disability charity Grooms-Shaftesbury. Baroness Howarth of Breckland will be its Chair of Trustees.

Mary Bishop, CEO of the new organisation said: “We are immensely privileged that the Princess Royal has accepted our invitation to become Grooms-Shaftsbury’s first patron; she has had an active association with the Shaftesbury Society over the years and we are truly delighted that this relationship is able to continue through her work with Grooms-Shaftesbury.”

Baroness Howarth, previously president of John Grooms and chief executive of Childline, is currently Vice-chair of the All-party Parliamentary Housing Care and Social Support Group.

Peter Griffiths, previously Chair of John Grooms will be Vice Chair of the newly merged charity along with David Harmer who was previously Shaftesbury Society’s Chair of trustees and also briefly held office as the first chair of Grooms-Shaftsbury.

Grooms-Shaftesbury has a turnover of around £50 million and over 2,000 staff.
