Grass roots community projects across Northern Ireland are to get a £100,000 boost. Northern Bank has just launched a new round of its Community Grants programme which provides funding towards local community activities that support knowledge or learning, the arts, or community sport.

Not-for-profit organisations operating at a very local level are eligible to apply for a grant of between £500 and £5000. Rosamond Bennett, Head of Communications, Northern Bank, said they received hundreds of applications in their first round of Community Grants last autumn and were able to help over seventy organisations to realise their ambitions and bring some fantastic ideas to life.

Whether it was a Young Farmers’ arts festival, lessons in kurling for senior citizens or personal development training for unemployed young people, we were so proud to have been able to get involved, Rosamond said.

Community Grants is a key element of Northern’s Community Banking programme which also includes financial education programmes in schools, staff volunteering, a Charity Partner programme and a science education outreach programme with W5.

Panels made up of community leaders representing the fields of Knowledge, Culture and Sport will assist Northern Bank’s four Regional General Managers in making their decisions on the grant distribution.
